Duplicate UIDs

Are you allowed to have duplicate UIDs in or between project files? For
example, duplicate TASK_UID, TASK_UID, etc. And, if it is not allowable, how
do you repair a file with duplicate UIDs?

Thanks

No, you cannot have duplicate Unique IDs in a project. If you are seeing an
error message regrading this, the duplicate Unique IDs usually arise from
cutting and pasting or copying and pasting within an enterprise project, or
from one enterprise project to another. To resolve this issue, you will
need to save your project as an MPP file outside of Project Server, ask your
Project Server administrator to delete the project, and then import the MPP
file back into the Project Server system. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale.

You're correct in that the problem seems to have originated with a PM
copying and pasting whole rows of data rather than just tasks names. We are
reminding folks to "don't do that".

Early on I went through the steps you recommended without success. I saved
a local copy of the file, with all enterprise information, and then imported
it to the server under a different name expecting the duplicate UIDs to be
corrected. They weren't. I am going to do that again but saving the proejct
file without the enterprise information. I'll let you know how it goes.

Again, thanks for the suggestion.

Oops! I goofed when I said to save it as an MPP file. Save it first as an
XML file, close it, reopen the XML file, and then save it as an MPP. The
process of saving it as an XML file should resolve the corruption. My
apologies for leaving out one important step! Hope this helps.

Dale- what would be the best way to "move" a task from one section to a
different section of a project schedule? I have a situation where a series
of tasks will now be taking place during a different phase of the project.

Thanks!
Christina
