Duplicated events and lock up in delete folder

I have had two issues come up in the last day. I am assuming they are
related some how.

1) I am getting duplicate events in my calendar. I have Entourage as the
dominate calendar to bring over to iCal because I have an iPhone. Yesterday,
for some reason, all my events showed up twice. I have learned how to use
the "remove duplicate calendar events" script but I am trying to figure out
why it happened.

2) In one account when I go to the delete folder it locks up and I have to
force quite. I am assuming there is a corrupt message in there that messes
things up but how do I get rid of it? I have even gone to my Mobile Me
account via a browser to delete them but Entourage still shows them there
and locks up when I click on that folder.

I am using the most current version of Office and Entourage and Mac OSX. I
have rebuilt and compacted but the issue still persists.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This only happens in my
(e-mail address removed) account and none of my other accounts

Lots of problems with Sync Services especially involving multiple devices.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

If the messages are on a server, you need to use your web browser to find
and delete the message.

Thank you Diane,

My apologies yes it is IMAP. I went to the browser and deleted the messages
but they are still in Entourage (the deleted messages folder) when I open
it. Seems to lock up before it is able to delete the messages when updating
upon connecting to my .Mac account. All other folders seem to be fine. I
only lock up when I go to that deleted messages folder.

And now I am getting error messages and it says to rebuild. I verify and it
says Entourage is fine and when I got to rebuilt it just hangs so I have to
force quite again. And I just got a message saying it had to be rebuilt and
would not open. Is it safe to assume that if Entourage will not open I can
not check massages from you from this news server?

About a year ago I had to rebuild my identity form scratch (hours and hours)
There was a trick you suggested about moving something to the desktop but it
was pretty drastic. Was it exporting information so I can reimport? Would
you suggest that?

Not sure why Entourage opened this time but it makes me cautious in going to
the (e-mail address removed) deleted messages folder

Above you said Entourage would not open, but this contradicts. Can you
clarify?

Try this...Hold Shift key down when launching Entourage. Does that create a
problem? We need to be able to use the clear cache for your IMAP's Inbox.
Control click on the Inbox and select Refresh. You might try Repair message
list in this same menu.

Let's see if this works before you create a new Identity.

You've run into two of Entourage's worst problems but there are
certainly others. Diane is best to guide you through this but you will
not have fun.

Sync services is a known issue and a scan of this newsgroup and forums
such as Apple.com and Markspace will provide you with tons of
information on this. You can open a case on this with Microsoft and
since it is not resolvable you will not be billed and can asked that
this be placed into their reporting system. I would outline the impact
this is having on you.

When you click on a folder or a module and it fails to open this
generally indicates your database is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt
even if verify is reporting it is running OK but I'd run verify again
and see what it says. Again, you can call Microsoft to ask for
assistance and it is unlikely the results will be satisfactory so the
above applies here too.

Since you've run into this, I would develop a going forward strategy
as Entourage will keep you very busy keeping it working and you will
use a lot of your time in the process but maybe that's alright.
Scanning the newsgroups and forums will give you all the information
you need to develop a going forward strategy which is probably a
pretty good idea.

Bless you kind woman! That did the trick. After doing that I was also able
to click on the purge deleted messages menu option and they vanished.

I then, just for giggle's, rebuilt the data base and it dropped 50 MB
immediately.

I love this list -Lorene

Glad it's working again.

immediately.

Remember rebuilding is not recommended unless you are having problems.
Dropping the size isn't so important. Entourage just reuses the space when
an item is deleted.

Thanks for the reminder. I think that what was happening was big enough
justify doing it (locking up seemed like a big problem)
