Duplicated Personal Folders (yet again)

I have finished a complete system recovery on my PC. I restored the Office
2003 settings from Start> all programs> Microsoft Office> Microsoft Office
tools> save my settings wizard.

I am not sure how, but I manaeged to have 2 identical personal folders in
Outlook 2003 with both folders receiving incoming mail. I maneged to rename
the file, and create a new Personal Folder, and copy (not move) all the sub
folders into it. I then managed to delete one of the duplicate folders by
right clicking the folder and clicking close. When trying this on the second
folder you get an error message "The operation failed an object could not be
found" you can create and delete sub folders within this duplicate folder,
but you can't access advanced settings within properties, you receive the
same error message.

In start> control panel> mail> data files, the duplicated file does not
show. In E-mail accounts> view or change, the duplicated file shows in
"deliver new mail to"
My OS is XP Home SP2 with IE7.

I have read the various messages on this problem, and tried several of the
suggestions, but the duplicated file just wont go.

Any help would certainly stop my frustration at not being able to remove
this folder.

Somehow you have corrupted your mail profile and need to recreate it. For

I have created the new profile, and copied all my e-mails into this new
profile from the backups created with pfbackup. I am not sure which of the
following files in the oylook data directory I should delete, they are

1) Outlook.pst
2) Outlook1.pst
3) Outlook11.pst
4) Personal Folders.pst
5) Personal Folders new.pst
6) Outlook Backup.pst
7) Outlook Internet Settings Hotmail00000013.pst

I know what nos 6 & 7 are, but I cant tell which files relate to my new
profile, and I don't want to create the same problem again.

I don't know what's in there either; they are your personal files. To see
what's in there use File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

If you do not want the file anymore delete it but only AFTER you have
disconnected it from Outlook via File-> Data File Management or you'll end
up corrupting your mail profile again.

They will only show up in Data File Management AFTER you have connected them
through File-> Open

If you want to delete a file you'll need to disconnect it from Outlook first
via Data File Management. Then close Outlook and delete the pst-file you
just disconnected.

Thanks for the info, I have now deleted all the un-required folders, so that
I only have 1 .pst file, and 1 backup.pst file, plus the hotmail files, and
my current folder appears to be ok, without any loss of emails.
