Duplicating Text

Hi,

I am creating a training document which will contain training material for
three different tasks. There are several common (long) steps between each
task. Is there a way that I can create a document where once you click on
the task type it will all the steps for that task? I would rather have a
single copy of the common tasks but for printing I will need a full document
for each task. If I am not clear (which I often am) here is an example.

Step 1
Details
Step 2
Details
Step 3
Details
Step 4
Details

Task #1 Procedure
Step 1
Details
Step 3
Details

Task # 2 Procedure
Step 1
Details
Step 2
Details
.... and so on...

I only want to modify the Step details at the beginning of the document and
have it modified for each Task automatically.

Thank you.

Does that mean I need to create a separate file for each detail? Also, this
will not allow me to have a printable document with all the details for a
particular Task without having to print each detail separately.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you.

Use AutoText.

1) Type in all the common details

2) Select all the common detail text

3) Click Insert > Autotext > New...

4) Provide a name (shortcut).

5) Click OK

From now on, when you type your name/shortcut and press Enter, Word will
automatically enter all that tedious text for you.
