1. Fractional durations (1.113 days) are typically the result of units
assignments and work. For example, dividing 20 hours of work among 3 men.
Since work=duration x units, I usually split the screen (Window/Split) and
display Resources in the bottom pane. I adjust Work and units% to achieve
the desired results of whole days or the desired fraction (2.5 days), etc.
The solution may vary depending on the task type of fixed work, units,
duration and if it is effort driven.
2. Suspended calendar. Set a status date such as 28 AUGUST 2007. Make sure
all your %completes, etc. are correct to the status date. That is, no
incomplete work to the left of this date and no actual starts to the right of
this date. So, your schedule is now "up to date." Make sure you have
correct logic to drive your incomplete work based on predecessors, not hard
coded dates.
Suppose you want to be "silent" on the project from 28 AUGUST until 15
JANUARY 2008. What you want to do is reschedule all work that is in progress
as of 28 AUGUST plus push out unstarted work.
Tools/Tracking/Update Project. Select "Rescheule uncompleted work to start"
In the dropdown box, select the project resume date from the drop down. In
this case 15 JAN 2008. Select "Entire Project" then click OK.
All remaining work will move the right leaving a hole between 28 AUG and 15
JAN.
Be careful to manually adjust any hard coded dates as well in case your
schedule logic did not move them for you.
