HI,

I've downloaded two files one is a dxf and dwg...when i try to open it with
visio i get the error message - Cannot open file. THe file may not be a DWG
or DXF file, it may not be in a supported version of the DWG file format.
Check the file and try again. - any idea how i would be able to open these
files?

if I recall correctly, visio does not support the latest version of autocad.
you may have to save the autocad file as a older version which is easily done
within autocad. hope that helps,

Larry

not sure i understand your follow up question. latest version of autocad is
2006, not sure up to which version 2003 could take. again, call the person
who sent you the file and have them save it as a 2000 dwg file

Visio 2003 supports AutoCAD 2000 and earlier. You will need to save your
files back to R15 to use with Visio.

Hello,.

Problem with DXF import to Visio 2003SP2.

The DXF comes into Visio looking good and it has an invisible frame around,
which can be deleted or not. Either way needed operations to that wont work.
If you go Shape - operations and choose Fragment, the geometrics are not
good anymore and you cannot use combine either. In old Visio5c version, this
worked correctly. The same DXF was tested on both versions and R12,R13, R14
and 2000 DXF versions were tested. Before installing Visio 2003SP2 the
geometrics looked bad/wrong, so thats fixed on SP2, but boolean operations
still won't work.

Minor notes, following formats are no longer supported?
- ai (no open/save) - visio 5 does
- ps (no open/save directly) - visio5 opens and saves directly.

Yes, something has changed between Visio 5 and Visio 2003 with regard to
shape operations and CAD drawings. This has turned out to be quite a
complicated investigation, and the root cause is still unknown.
