Dynamic Links Between Project and Excel

S

Sharon

I would like to dynamically update an Excel Spreadsheet
with data in a MS Project file. I will be using
the "Work" field (task work not resource work) from the
Project file as the data source for the Excel
spreadsheet. Any help with setting up dynamic links
between the two programs would be appreciated. I'm using
Project 2000

Thank YOu

To dynamically link data from a Microsoft Project plan to an Excel workbook,
do the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project and open the desired project plan
2. Select the desired cell in the Work column in any task view
3. Click Edit - Copy
4. Launch Microsoft Excel and open the desired workbook
5. Select the cell where you want the dynamic link to be created
6. Click Edit - Paste Special
7. In the dialog box, select the "Text" option and the "Paste link" option
8. Click OK
9. Save and close the workbook, then save and close the project plan

The next time you open the Excel workbook, you will be prompted to update
the data link. Be aware that since the data in the Work column in Microsoft
Project is formatted in hours, the data will be pasted with the "h"
formatting after the number in Excel. This will result as the pasted data
being interpreted as text data by Excel. Hope this helps.
