dynamic references to numbered paragraphs - possible?

igor

I am creating auto-numbered paragraphs in a Word 2000 doc. In other
paragraphs, there are references to, for example, "As noted in paragraph 2
...." Is there a way to make that paragraph 2 reference to be dynamic so if
Paragraph 2 becomes Paragraph 4 the reference is auto-updated? Thanks in
advance. -- Igor

Use Insert > Reference > Cross-reference for Word 2002 and later. (For
Word 97 and Word 2000, use Insert > Cross-reference.) In the
Cross-reference dialog box, select the appropriate type of reference
(which would be "Numbered item" in this case), choose to refer to
"Paragraph number", click the text you want to refer to, and finally
click Insert.

Hi Igor

Insert > Reference > Cross Reference (or, in Word 2002 and older, Insert >
Cross Reference).

In the Reference Type box, choose Numbered Item. In the Insert Reference To
box, choose something appropriate. Choose paragraph 2 and click OK.

Note that what you have enterd is a field. Fields update, but not
automatically. Use F9 to update one field, or ctrl-a F9 to update all fields
in the document. And, make sure that you have ticked the box at Tools >
Options > Print > Update fields. This will make sure that the fields will
update when you print.

Hope this helps.
