Dynamic Web Pages & Layered Menues

I created a DWT and want to create a nested menu using layers. The menu
displays correctly on the created dwt page but not on the pages I applied
the template too. I tried adding the column where the menu sits an added
managed region and without. Neither made a difference to the individual
pages. Help, I do not want to manually add the menu to every page.

As long as none of the menu code (script, CSS, or HTML)
resides in an editable region, you should be OK.

You do know that DWTs don't work properly on Web sites
running the FrontPage Server Extensions, right?

Why is that?

Actually, pages that have the DWT applied work just fine, however when updating a DWT under the FP
extensions, you have to manual update each page using the DWT.

They don't? Then what would be the option. My provider allows me to install
the enable the extensions. Should I have then disabled?

Then that is a bite. Should the extensions be turned off? And what effect
would that cause?

No are design-time component, and done need any run-time extensions to function. To use the auto
update feature of the DWT, you have to be working with a disk-based web or hosted on a Windows 2003
server with Windows SharePoint Services installed

No
It just means for now to apply any DWT changes while working under the FP SE you will either have to:
- open all affected pages to apply DWT changes individually
- work locally under a Disc Based Web (not localhost) and publish to the FP SE server
- or publish to a DBW, apply your changes, and publish changes back to your FP SE web

The DWT automatic update is currently only supported under WSS or DBW
- the FP 2002 SE are older than the new DWT (and FP 2003) and don't support the DWT objects

Don't you think that this -

- work locally under a Disc Based Web (not localhost) and publish to the FP
SE server

is always the best (and safest) idea?

R

Ronx

Not always.
I prefer to work locally with a Server Based Web, and publish to my host.
This way I can test server side scripts locally.

Hmm - if you are running a local webserver, like IIS/Apache, can't you do
this testing locally?

T

Thomas A. Rowe

Working locally is always a good idea, however if working with ASP, etc. then you should also have a
local web server for testing.

If you have a local web server, then you should work with localhost to start with and not create a
disk-based web first, and then publish to localhost.
