Dynamic web template, Autoshape textbox, hyperlink corrupting

This is a nightmare bug! I've searched and searched and cannot find any other
reports of it, let alone solutions.

I have an intranet site developed in Frontpage 2003. (on XP sp1)

Some pages are based on a dynamic template. index.dwt.

Problem is this:
I have a table in an editable region of the page.
It contains rows; some have an autoshape textbox in them. There is some text
in the textbox.
I have made the textbox a hyperlink - to index.html (href="index.htm")

Every now and then - most obviously when I open the page and do a
Format->Dynamic Web Template->Update Selected Page - the hyperlink changes to
%5bU%5dindex.htm" (href="%5bU%5dindex.htm"). Due to this, the hyperlink is
unusable!

Ascii hex codes 5b and 5d correspond to [ and ].

As a workaround, I have been reduced to adding the hyperlink to the text
inside the textbox, which is rubbish.

Anyone help, or seen this before?

rgds,
Nick

Avoid using VML graphic functions (AutoShapes, WordArt, TextBox, etc.) create image of the shape in
your graphic application, and import and insert on your page, then create your hyperlink.

But it's too late for that - currently have about 100 pages!

I would argue that this makes the page more difficult to create and
maintain, but that is probably not the case after initial setup/training.

Also, I would have argued that making them images would stop the text being
indexed by indexserver, but the text doesnt get indexed in Autoshapes anyway
- the tags are ignored.

It's a real shame - I wish autoshapes had never been added... oh well I
guess I'll just go jump of a cliff..... or start looking for some classy
button images!

Thanks for the reply - it is appreciated!
