Hi Ken,
Many of the fax created .TIF files are multipage
ones, which are not supported in Office. Starting
with Office XP, MS Office Document Imaging can separate
and OCR those types of file, but you may have better
success with OCR software included with your scanner,
or separating the TIF into separate files for each page
