E-mail disappears after reply or forward - sometimes...

Paul MacFarlane

I have a user (boss of course) that is using OL2003 on XP Pro.

Sometimes, when he replies to a message (simple thank you) or forwards a
message, the original disappears from his inbox.

This is what I have checked:
- Filter - None set.
- Sorting / Grouping (Sorted by received, grouped by received)
- He has NO rules
- I have looked through all the setting I can find and see nothing.

I have traced the 'disappearing' messages and have found the following....
- Internal / External doesn't matter.
- The messages are actually gone. If I open his mailbox from my system it's
not in deleted items, inbox or anywhere else I can find....
- I have confirmed the messages did arrive. Our anti-spam device has a
record of it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

The first thing you should check is that view isn't being sorted by the icon
column. It's a common issue when replies & forwards disappear. If you do an
Advanced Find see if you locate the message.

Hey Paul I run OE 6.0 and it might have the same options try going to tools
options and maintanice and it should have an option to delete messages after
so long try in there to see if that helps good luck.

Vince,

Checked that.... I saw all the other messages with that suggestion before I
posted mine....

I've tried changing views, etc..... No luck....

The wierd thing is it's like it is permanently deleted. Doesn't even show
up in deleted items.
I can't find anything that would indicate it's being moved anywhere (like an
archive) - there is no archive.....

I know the exchange server retains deleted items for a period of time. I'm
going to check there....

I only have this 1 (out of 80) user with this problem. The bad thing is
it's intermittent...

Any further thoughts?

Thanks,
Paul
