E-mail full-download and deletion from IMAP server

My email server switched from POP3 to IMAP format. How can I set up Outlook
2007 to fully download my email to a .pst and delete the original from the
server, as POP3 used to do? Manually copying each email from my IMAP folder
to the .pst folder, then deleting it from the IMAP folder is tedious and
inefficient.

POP3 and IMAP4 are different mail protocols. You can't make one
behave like the other. IMAP4 works on the premise that you can *mark*
an item for deletion but the item doesn't actually get deleted up on
the server until you commit those deletions (by issuing a Purge
command from the e-mail client).

You sure your e-mail provider switched from POP3 to IMAP4? Maybe they
simply added IMAP4 support but still include POP3 support. If not,
they screwed up per your want for behavior in e-mail reception.

(They actually did switch to IMAP.) It seems that creating a rule to "MOVE"
the message to the Inbox of the .pst for all received messages with me in the
To: or Cc: line does (inadvertantly) what I want it to do. Fortunately 'Sent
Items' saves in the .pst vice the IMAP folder, So, as long as the rule
continues to work, I should be OK.

Why do you want the messages to move off of the server?

Prevents the account from getting full. I only have 100Mb storage on the
server, and I have kept all emails (minus spam/junk/ads/etc) since '97 for
archival reasons...thus the *.pst on my hard drive.

Provided you have the send/receive group configured to download the entire
message from the IMAP server, rather than the headers only, you should be
able to create a rule that moves the messages as then arrive in the IMAP
Inbox to a local PST folder of your choice. I believe Outlook 2007 can be
configured to purge deleted items upon exist as well for IMAP accounts.

You're correct, and it can also be set to purge folders individually as
well.
