E-mail function in word and excel

Hi,
In word and excel it is possible to send your document as email by going on
File | Send To, and then selecting mail recipient. Is it still possible to
use this feature without having outlook installed and using Lotus Notes
instead? This feature is currently greyed out, however, the option 'send to
mail recipient as adobe pdf' is not greyed out and works fine with Lotus
Notes. Any suggestions would be great!
