e-mail link to website failure

I have a problem in as much that I am unable to activate website link
from within received e-mails.

I had no such problem when I was using the anti-virus program AVG 7.5
but since I upgraded to the AVG 8.0 version this problem has arisen
AVG 8.0 has not only anti-virus facilities, but also a firewall, saf
site scanning etc. I am using Microsoft Outlook as my e-mail clien
and Mozilla Firefox as my web browser and running Windows XP wit
Service Pack 3 on a Compac Presario 2500 laptop.

I have presented this problem to Support at AVG and received a repl
with a number of steps to test the software. None of these wer
successful in rectifying the problem.

The blocking of the links, I feel, is most likely an action of the AV
firewall, (I have disabled Microsoft’s firewall so there should be n
conflict). All links within the e-mails are blocked and all tha
happens when I attempt to connect is that when the cursor is over th
link I get a ‘no entry’ symbol arising and if I click on the link I ge
a window appearing entitled ‘Select Link Browser’. If I select Firefo
and click ‘open’ in this window all that happens is that the start pag
of Firefox launches and nothing more. All this has been the case fo
the last two weeks, until today. Now, when clicking on a link in a
e-mail, there is no ‘no entry’ sign arising, but the start page o
Mozilla Firefox is launched, but nothing further occurs. The URL of th
link is not displayed in the bar and no connection to it is made.

I do not know enough to be able to pursue this problem further. Ca
anybody help me?

Regards, Bluesma
