E-mail merge vs. Outlook security update

I need to do a mass e-mail merge. The main document has
been created in Word 2000. When I attempt to execute the
merge, I get this message:

"A program is trying to a access e-mail addresses you have
stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? . . ."

I have to click "Yes" to continue - for EVERY address I am
e-mailing to. This is not acceptable on the 500+ addresses
I need to email.

From researching Microsoft's online support site, I
understand this is caused by an Outlook security update -
which I obediently installed at some point in the past.
How do I make this security update "go away"?

You can't just make it go away. Either upgrade to Office
2002 SP-1, get the Exchange administrator to loosen
Outlook security for you, or use a third-party mail merge
tool (see

do I loosen up the Outlook security to keep mail merges from initiating the
security prompt?

How to loosen those permissions? - the only technotes I have seen
require AD & group policies on Exchange 2000

None of those installed here - exchange 5.5 on NT 4.0

Hmmm - All I get is "could not load an object because it is not
available ...."

We use a SQL Server and MAPI comaptible tool that generates email

Of course now it won't !

security upgrade?


We use a MAPI enabled SQL server application (a software defect tracking
tool to be exact)

We need it to be able to deliver its email - the Office 2000 security
upgrade blocks it .......

That is what I did - set up the puplic folder - installed the template &

Recode to use Redemption or use the Exchange admin security form to suppress the prompts.
