E-mail not sending

K

Kris Peters

I am new to Project server. I have verified I set up our SMTP server in the
Notifications & Reminders section in the Project Server setup. I have also
configured the e-mail settings in SharePoint. However, no emails are sent
for issues, tasks, or new user setup. Is there something I forgot, or
something else I can check?

Are their e-mail addresses correctly entered in the Enterprise Resource
Pool? Is your SMTP server set up to forward messages sent by Project
Server? Let us know.

Hi Kris,

Have you confirmed the user who is not receiving the emails has definitely
subscribed to the notifications through the link on their PWA home page or
that their Project Manager has assigned notifications for them?

Also the the Project Server notifications do not send email messages for
Risks, Issues and Documents. If the user wants automated emails for these
then they need to go into the Issue/Risk/Document library list and then
subscribe to the WSS Alert by clicking the 'Alert Me' link on the left hand
menu.

If you have covered all that off and this is not the cause of the problem
then please check the Application Event log and report back any errors being
posted. What type of SMTP server are you connecting to?

I verified all the user information was correct including the e-mail address.
The test user (me) has subscribed to WSS alerts. We are using Exchange
2003, and all internal addresses including the Project Server can relay off
of it. We are using McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.0.

I just applied the SP2a patch this morning and I will re-test the mail
sending issues and get back to you with any application errors.

Check your McAfee 'Access' logs and I think you will see that the email
process is beling blocked. You will need to configure your local client to
allow the process to send mail as an exception to your 'Block programs from
sending mail/spam' rule. In sharepoint, the process is OWSTIMER.EXE. I'm
not sure if Project Server leverages the same routine or not, but your McAfee
log will tell which process is being blocked.

We had the same issue with our Sharepoint services sending alerts - and it
sounds like you may have a similar issue.

Good luck!
