E-mail Options not selectable

When using Word 2000, if I attempt to select 'E-mail
Options', ie clicking on Tools, Options, General and then
E-mail Options, I get a message "There is insufficient
memory or disk space. Close extra windows and save work."

This is despite the fact that I have 256 meg of RAM and
32.5 gigbytes of free disk space!

Is there a bug in my version of Word, or could there be a
setting I need to adjust.
