E-mailing documents with hyperlinks

When I create Word documents with hyperlinks to other files or folders, the
hyperlinks work in the Word document until I e-mail that document. When I
e-mail the Word document as an attachment, the document can be opened, but
the hyperlinks no longer work. What do I need to do differently? The Word
documents are not protected documents.

Does the person who is receiving the emailed document have access to the
same drive where your files are located? Is that drive defined the same for
both of you? For instance, If you are hyperlinking to P:\My Documents - is
their P:\My Documents the same folder?

But is that folder defined the same for everyone? In our company there are
many people who access the same information but for some people it's their T
drive and others its their U drive. That will make your hyperlinks break if
they are formed using the T or the U rather than the server name.

Yes, the files are located in a folder accessible by everyone in the
company.

Yes, it is the same for everyone. It is in a folder that is system wide one
everyone's desktop. I can send a hyperlink via e-mail that will work, but if
it is a hyperlink within a Word document, it won't.

Are they trying to use Reading Layout View for clicking on the link?

Does this happen to everyone? Or are some people able to click and open the
resulting document?

They are viewing the word document in Print Layout view. It happens to
everyone. Again, I can send just a link via e-mail and it works fine, but if
the link is in a Word document that is an e-mail attachment, the link doesn't
work.
