E-mailing web pages

I have been given the task if e-mailing a document created in the
windows version of Word to a group of people. This document contains
graphics as well as live links to web sites. If I use the original
document and paste it into Mail none of the graphics are sent and most
of the links are inactive. I have tried saving the original as a web
page and now the links are active but the graphics are still missing
when the recipient receives the e-mail. The graphics appear in
original e-mail message. It seems that the graphics which were
embedded in the original file cannot be linked and sent in the e-mail
message. Is there any way around this problem? Entourage does not
handle this problem either. The originator of the file tells me that
Outlook handles this situation easily.

If you use Word 2004, you're lucky (more or less): make sure that Entourage
2004 is set as your default email client, open the document in Word, and you
should be able to send the document via the File>Send To menu (as HTML to
Entourage, or something along these lines).

Note however that MacWord's HTML output is not as sophisticated as
WinWord's, and that Entourage's HTML engine is not as sophisticated as
Outlook's, so I can't really guarantee that the result is going to be
usable.

If that doesn't solve your problems, post back and give more details, such
as the version of Mac OS, and, what is more important, the version of Office
you are using.

If you don't have Office 2004, or something isn't coming quite right with
it, get my free "Send Complex HTML X" script from

PLEASE always state which version of Microsoft Office you are using -
**2004**, X or 2001. It's often impossible to answer your questions
otherwise.

I am using Office 2004 which is running in Mac OSX 10.4.3 and the exact
problem does not seem to be one which can be rectified in the Mac
world. The original file which I receive comes from a windows machiine
running the latest version of Office. The graphic files which are used
are contained in the file which is sent. When this file, either in its
original form or in a web page format is pasted into a mail message the
graphic attachments are lost. I have found a folder where they reside
but they do not get sent with the email. I also run Virtual PC so I
suppose that I could install Microsoft Outlook and email from there. I
know that that the graphics can be e-mailed successfully, embedded in
the e-mail message using Outlook but I really don't want to go to that
expense. The problem seems to be related to the fact that Mac mail
programs are not programmed to to handle message with embedded
graphics.

The problem seems to be related to the fact that Mac mail
programs are not programmed to to handle message with embedded
graphics.

That could perhaps be better stated as "Most Mac mail programs, such as
Eudora and Mail.app can handle embedded graphics perfectly well, but
attempt to adhere to proper internet standards in doing so."

In special circumstances, sender and recipient could agree on the class
of attachments they are prepared to exchange. For example, a zipped up
Safari Web Archive would easily meet the requirements being discussed
in this thread. It is no more outlandish than expecting the recipient
to have a compatible version of PC Office is it?

I have Entourage 11.2.4 and I usually need to resort to had pasting the
graphics in the email post. Where ever the cursor is, that is where the
graphic drops.
I have had no luck in dropping animations in Entourage. I usually get a
still.

Can anyone help me with this?

Nobody can help you with animations in Entourage :) Entourage uses a very
simple HTML display mechanism that cannot display animations.

A web page never does contain any graphics: the only thing that exists in a
web page is a URL that points to the location of the stored graphics.

The normal way to handle this would be to create a mini website, with an
Images folder, then zip up both the Images folder and the HTML Web page that
contains the pointers to them. Attach the .zip file to your email. If the
URLs were correctly created as ³relative² links, the images will appear
correctly when the recipient unzips the package and double-clicks the
contained web page.

I think most users would find it a lot more convenient to send or receive a
complete Word document with the images embedded in the document :) HTML is
not really appropriate as a medium for emailing complex documents. You can
make it work, but it¹s simply a lot easier to send the original as a Word
document.

Cheers

I am interested in John's reply sincce I started this whole project by
trying to e-mail a word document with what I thought were embedded
graphics and live links to websites. I recceive the initial document
from a PC and open it in Word 2004 on my Mac. All graphics appear and
the live links work on my machine. If I select that document and paste
it into Mail it appears to be fine but when it is sent the graphics are
missing and most links no longer work. I started looking at emailing
documents as web pages at the suggestion of someone at another site.
Is there a way to pste the PC word document into any Mac mail program
and have the embedded graphics appear and the live links in working
order?
