How do I authenticate before sending the e-mail to avoid this response

Use the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checkbox on the
Outgoing Server tab of your account properties dialogue.

I think that solved the problem- I checked that box and my e-mails are being
delivered so far. thanks
