E-mails sent from my iPhone illegible in Entourage sent folder

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

When I send e-mails from my iPhone using my Exchange account, they appear in my Entourage SENT folder, but in an unusable form.

Neither the TO field, nor the SUBJECT field are recognised and the text appears as multiple lines of unintelligible strings as follows:

PGh0bWw+PGJvZHkgYmdjb2xvcj0iI0ZGRkZGRiI+PGRpdj5IaSBTaW1vbiw8L2Rpdj48ZGl2Pjxi
cj48L2Rpdj48ZGl2PkknbSBpbiBMb25kb24gYWxsIGRheSB0b2RheSAod29ya3Nob3Agb24gdGhl

The messages all reach their recipient without problem and are perfectly legible.

Furthermore, colleagues with the same specification and configuration of iPhone and connecting to the same Exchange Server, but using an Outlook client rather than Entourage, don't have any problem - the messages appear in their SENT folder exactly as if they had been sent from their PC.

Is this a fundamental problem with Entourage or is there something I can do to sort this problem out - other than stop using my iPhone to send e-mails!

Many thanks, Brian

It's a very well known issue. A patch needs to be applied to the
exchange server. Ask your Exchange admin if they can update the server.

Corentin - many thanks for responding and I'm glad to hear that this is a known issue rather than a problem with my system.

Do you happen to know the Exchange Server patch reference? Presumably it isn't one that is automatically downloaded, so a reference would be helpful.

Once again, many thanks, Brian

Have a look at this blog post. It explains what's happening and what you
can do to work around it:

"Use AppleScript to read ActiveSync Sent Items in Entourage"

or <http://tinyurl.com/6f83vv>

Hope this helps!

Bill - many thanks for this.

I downloaded the script and have managed to recover some recent messages so that they can now be searched, which is a great help.

As an ongoing workaround, I have now set my iPhone to bcc me a copy of all messages and set up a rule to move these messages to the sent folder. It seems to be working OK so far.

Am I correct in understanding that this ActiveSynch problem has been resolved in Exchange Server 2007?

Many thanks again, Brian

Yes, this is an ActiveSync bug in Exchange Server 2003 and not in 2007.

Any chance of a KB link/article number so I can get this patched up on my server?

Thanks.

Any chance of a KB link/article number so I can get this patched up on my server?

The "patch" is to upgrade to Exchange Server 2007. It has not and will
not be fixed for Exchange Server 2003.

The problem is acknowledged here:
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926521>, however, this article
incorrectly states that the cause of the problem is actually in
compliance with RFC standards and that Entourage is to blame. It's not.

Hope this helps!
