e-newsletter formatting issues

When creating a publication for email in publisher 2003, the text looks
normal in publisher. However, when I send the publication i.e. e-newsletter
or e-announcement through email, the text is the same font and size, but it
seems like it becomes just a little distorted. The text looks slimmer and
grainy. Anybody have an idea if this can be resolved or is this something
that just happens when sending a publication through email?

Unless you started with one of the email formatted templates, then your
message will be sent as an image, which would explain the "distorted" text.
You can test this by trying to select the text in the message your have
sent. You won't be able to do so if it is an image. Also if you didn't use a
web safe font, it will be converted to an image. And if you did start with
an email formatted template, go to Tools > Options > Web Tab and uncheck the
email option to send as an image.

I did initially start with an email formatted template. But as you said, i
cannot select the text in a message, so it is an image. How do i know a web
safe font from a non websafe font? And the email option is already
unchecked. so where do i go from here? Thanks.

Steve is right. Most folks won't have Publisher and can't open the file. All
have or can download the Adobe Reader which will open a pdf. If you don't
have Adobe Acrobat to create a pdf (expensive) try one or the other of these
free ones. They install as a "printer." So when you want to create a pdf,
"Print" to the program that you have downloaded. http://www.win2pdf.com or

Web safe fonts as per Publisher Help:
a.. Arial
a.. Arial Black
a.. Comic Sans MS
a.. Courier New
a.. Georgia
a.. Impact
a.. Symbol
a.. Times New Roman
a.. Trebuchet
a.. Verdana
a.. Wingdings

The next step would be to run the design checker tool to see if that picks
up any other issues. If you are using word wrap around an image...that will
be converted to an image. Don't use a master page. In general, there are a
number of things you can do in a print document that just don't convert well
to html by Publisher, and the result is an image. Start with just the email
formatted template and test that. Then add your design elements one by one
and test at each step to find what you can, and cannot do. Or...

I would tend to agree that it is a better choice to convert the document to
a PDF and attach it. The file size would be smaller than the image you are
sending now, and the quality would be superior.
