Earned Value Method vs Task Type

Does the task type have an affect on the earned value method: For example, I
am using Fixed work task type and Physical % Complete earned value method.

Excuse me if I seem dense, but, does that mean that these two function
seperate and apart from each other no matter what combination I use.
