Sometimes, installations burp in the middle of registering files and your
program will not work correctly until it gets a second shot at ensuring the
files are registered.
Usually, when I get a message "preparing to install" I just bite the bullet
since Office has no ears to hear the choice words I have carefully selected
to share with it.

||
||| I use Earthlink's software for email. I just installed Office 2000,
||| and now when I hit the 'Reply' buttone in Earthlink mail, I get an
||| Office dialog box with "Preparing to install..." msg and eventually
||| an error about the right CD not being in the drive. If I hit
||| 'Cancel' 3-4 times, I can proceed, but it's a real pain. Any fix?
||| TIA
|
|| Have you tried putting the CD in the drive?
|
| This advice seemed as useful as seeking a bucket when someone says "go
| soak your head," but before posting a snippy reply, I gave it a shot.
| Hit the 'Reply' button on my Earthlink mail msg, got "preparing to
| install" msg and a lot of whirring Then a couple of progress bars, and
| finally the box went away. And lo, the next time I hit 'Reply' -- no
| nastygram.
|
| But what on *earth* was it doing, and why does Office care how I
| handle my email?!
|
| Thanks for the prod.
