Easy Ques. on Saving my Form (Access 2000)

Renee Cohn

Hi all!

This forum has been invaluable to me, so I'd like to begin
by just thanking everyone out there who is answering these
questions. I obviously have NO idea what I'm doing on
Access and it's nice to know someone is listening...

Anyway, here's the deal: I want to save my database and
use it on my laptop to work on it. They both have Access
2000. However, when I went to open it on the laptop, it
was "read-only." I checked the properties of the original,
which naturally isn't read-only (it was "archive" or
something like that), so I am left with an Access database
which I can't access!

Thank you for any help you can provide. And have a nice
week!

Hi Renee,

Did you copy it from a CD?

If so, on your laptop, locate the mdb file, right-click it
and choose Properties. Make sure that Read-Only is NOT
selected.

Hiya Chas,

I copied it to a CD not from one (the original is on my
desktop)...

I located the file on the laptop, right-clicked it and saw
that Read-Only WAS checked in Properties. But when I went
to un-check it, it told me that this operation could not
be done; that it was ONLY read-only and that I couldn't
change that.

I re-burned it onto a new CD and had the same problem. Am
I missing something obvious??

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Regards,
Renee

Hi Renee,

you are copying it off of the CD onto your laptops hard
disk right? A CD-ROM is exactly what it says (Read Only
Media) so you will not be able to make changes to the
database while it is still on the CD.

Hey Chas,

....Afraid I had saved it to the hard-drive from the disc
and had the same problem when I went to open it (read-
only). Is it possible that it's the wrong type of CD?

I am using a R, not a RW...

Sorry to keep pestering you with this! Thanks again for
your time,

Renee

Thank you Mr. Spencer...Tht was my exact problem; you're a
star! I feel a little silly, but at least I can get on
with my database.

Thanks so much, again, for your help. It's really generous
of you to devote your time to helping us silly computer
idiots out!

Have a lovely day,
Renee
