Is there an easy way to convert a .dot template to .dotx?

Cheers,

Thanks for the recommendations and I hear you.

I do not see an option of Save as TEMPLATE from Word2007 when having "myHome.dot" open for altering.

I opened a Word 2003 document with Word 2007. I opened "myHome.dot" to work on code. But when I click on File/ Save there is no
offer to save as version 2007. It offers Save, Export, Import..

Ahhh, I think I see it. It's a separate drop down box. Thanks.

Hi Doug ... I'm functioning fine now. Thanks.
There is no "File/ Save As" when saving a template. But when you try to save an attached 2003 template while in 2007, "File/ Save"
comes up with a warning about Building Blocks or other and then gives an option to save as older template or 2007.

Gil

Clicking the Office button and then hovering over Save as shows you a list
beginning with Word Document, Word template, and then Word 97-2003 document.
The first two are W2007 formats. You could choose any one of them and still
change your mind in the save-as dialog where, in the save-as-type drop down,
you can also choose various files types (dotm, dotx, dot, docm, docx, doc,
txt, rtf, html, and so forth)

It sounds like you guys are talking about FILE SAVE when you're in DOCUMENT VIEW rather than a template view. Mine does not give a
"Save As" option in TEMPLATE view and there is no Office Button in that view.

Yah?

There is no "view" in Word 2007 in which there is not an Office Button. If
you're referring to the New Documents or Templates or New dialog or window,
then all it permits you to do is create a new document or template based on
a specific template. In order to use Save As, you would have to have a
template open for editing.

Hi Suzanne. I always appreciate your input. I think we’re just lost in semantics. Across the top of the template it says
"Microsoft Visual Basic - Normal [New Macros code]." The second line says "File Edit View Insert Format Debug Run Tools Add-ins
Window Help." The 3rd line starts with "Project Normal."

You can SAVE your .dot or .dotm template but there is not a "SAVE AS" in that “view.†You can still sometimes have the option of
"saving as" if Word knows you're trying to save in an earlier template format, or in a later template format. I think it comes up
as a drop down box option after Word realizes there is a version difference.

Cheers, Gil

Ah, you're in the VBE. What you're saving there is the VBA that's in the
template. That has nothing to do with saving the template itself as a
document.
