eating letters

Why when I typed today, why did it erase the letter in front? For example I
had someone¹s last name and I wanted to add his first name in front of it.
So I placed the cursor in front of the first letter of the last name and
started to type the first name, but every letter I typed erased a letter of
the last name. This is crazy. Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks,

Joanne

Assuming you're using Word v.X, it's because you clicked on the OVR
button at the bottom of the document window (the small circle will
be green). That puts you in overtype mode. Click it again to return
to insert mode.

Thank You! Thank You! J.E.

Yes that's exactly what I did.
