Ebook size and headings/bookmarks not showing up in Acrobat

Hi Everyone,

I am making an ebook, creating it in the latest Word on a Mac. I set
the headers. When I make a pdf, none of the headers (chapter markers
or book marks, I believe are other names for them) show up in my .pdf
file. The left side where the book mark should be is totally blank.
Why do they not show up? Please help with this, since I have been
looking everywhere for help on this one.

Also, I heard the size of the PAGE should be 6 x 9. How do I do that?
I set my borders to 6 by 9, on 8.5 x 11, but I heard that that is not
correct. The actual page has to be 6 by 9. An yone know how to do
this?

Many thanks!
Elaine

Re page size--you would use File | Page Setup to set the paper to a custom
size of 6x9. In OS X, to get a custom paper size, you have to go into
TextEdit and use File | Page Setup (the Settings drop-down) to create a
custom paper size of 6x9, then that custom size will show up as a choice
under Paper Size in File | Page Setup in Word.

*However*, MacAcrobat will not bring over existing bookmarks from a Word
doc. Just won't do it. I forgot whose fault it is (Adobe, MS, or Apple) but
it's not gonna happen. I think you have to go into Acrobat and create them
manually, and I don't know how, though someone else may chime in on this
topic. Alternatively, if you have access to a Win machine with Acrobat on
it, do the conversion on that.

You have to do it manually. Acrobat's Help covers it well enough;
unfortunately the Help text can't be copied or I'd paste it here.

Hi,

Thank you somuch for your help! The page size, was under page
atttributes and that was the one place I did not look. So, thank you!

As far as the bookmarks, is it only Mac that has this challenge?

When I am in Acrobat, I make a book mark, deselect it, but it won't let
me link it to the page. The instructions say to drag it to the page,
but when I do that I get the no symbol. How do you create the link to
the page part?

Many, many thanks,
Elaine

OOPS. The custom size for page set up just made the borders 6 by 9,
not the page size. I do not have a custom under my page size, in my
page setup in Word. How do I get a custom size to appear in word?

Many thanks!

Hi Elaine,

When you open the Page Setup dialog, click on the Settings arrows, not the
Paper Size arrows. Not very intuitive, is it?

Hi Beth,

Thank you so much for your help. That is so nice of you. I did change
the page size in custom to 6 by 9, but in acrobat, it shows up as the
same size as my 8.5 by 11 page size. It seems like it is just changing
the margins when I do that, but not the actual page size. Maybe I am
exporting to .pdf wrong?

Many thanks,
Elaine

Sorry, Elaine. I can't help with .pdf issues. Daiya, Elliott or John
should have some suggestions if you can wait till one or another drops in
here again. Shouldn't be long.
