Edit box covers cell above

When I edit a cell in Excel X, a white box comes up and covers up the cell
above the cell I am editing. How do I get rid of that "feature". If I want to
put a formula in a cell that contains a reference to the cell above the one I
am putting the formula in, I can't click the cell above to select it.

Thanks,
DJ

Try Preferences/Edit, uncheck the "Edit directly in cell" checkbox. You
can then select all cells, and, additionally, have the advantage of
selecting the precedents of a cell by double-clicking on it.

OTOH, all you have to do is use the up arrow to select the cell above...

Or make the row heights larger.

Found that to see the spread sheet on my PowerBook, I had the
spreadsheet zoomed to 150%. If I go to 125% or less, I do not have
the problem of the cell covering the one above. Thanks to all for
their help.
