I discovered a problem with the functionality between IE6 and MS Office
(namely Frontpage for my purposes). When browsing my site, I can click the
edit with...button and choose an editor (frontpage by defaut). This is a nice
feature which makes it handy to go between testing the site and editing it.
But when I recently started using html files with the extension .shtml, it
seemed to create a dilemma for this feature. When I click the edit
with...button now to edit the page in frontpage (or any other editor for that
matter), it does not open the actual page off the server, but rather pulls
the page straight from IE's cache...which creates a host of problems
(relative paths are not seen...I cannot quickly save the file without
browsing back into my website from FP). Furthermore, instead of showing it as
a .shtml file, the titlebar of Frontpage lists it as only a .htm file.
I think this problem should be addressed in future updates to IE and Office.
