Edit Links Dialog - wrong focus

I upgraded from Word 2K to 2007. If I select a linked Image (OLE Link) and
invoke Edit Links Dialog (Alt+E+k), the selected link is the first cross
reference and not the link I have selected. So none of the items in the
dialog box - Update, break link, Change Source make sense.

If I wanted to change the source of the link, I have to delete the old one
and insert new picture. I have hundreds of images in the file and this is no
simple task.

Thanks for any work around you may have.

I can confirm what you're seeing. This appears to be a bug in how Word 2007
handles such links when the document is in "compatibility mode". When I try
the same steps in a .docx file, Alt+E K yields the correct and expected
behavior. I will report this bug to Microsoft.

In the meantime... the only work-around I can think of (and I'm not sure if
it will work with your document) would be to save the file as a .docx file.
When I do that here, selected images in the file are correctly referenced
when using Alt+E K (or even when using the Change Picture command, which can
be put onto the QAT). Note that the Links command can also be put onto the
QAT for easier access. Choose Office button - Prepare, and right-click on
Edit Links to Files, and choose Add to Quick Access Toolbar (although, you
might still prefer Alt+D K).

If the document needs to be in .doc format... my suggestion would be to work
with it in .docx format, then save it in Word 97-2003 format once you've
finished changing the images.

As for as the formats are concerned my experience is the opposite. Links work
in .doc but not in .docx. You may want to double check before you report this
bug. Bob Buckland thinks the new graphics engine in 2007 is not passing on
properly the link info to the dialog box. You can see his replies by
searching for my name in Drawing and Graphics group. Other than storing it in
the compatibility mode where the document is huge there seems to be no
alternative.
Thanks for your time.

I found just the opposite of what you found. The links work fine for me in
..docx file--they are properly highlighted in the Links dialog box. In fact,
when I first attempted to replicate what you're seeing, I couldn't. It
wasn't until I switched to compatibility mode that what you were saying made
sense.
