edit picture greyed out

Mike

Hi I have recently installed Office 2007 Pro on to Vista. I have noticed that
in Word, when I want to Edit a picture, the edit Picture option is greyed
out. Can anyone tell me how to enable the Picture toolbar/ Edit option?
Thanks

I believe that will vary depending on the type of image file - some can be
edited, some can't.

Hi, I am using .JPG files. I will now use Publisher for this sort of work. I
Should have used Publisher in the first place!
Thanks

I'd be surprised if Publisher can edit JPEGs. Neither Word nor Publisher is
photo/graphics editing software.

No, I wouldn’t have expected a Photoshop type edit, but a basic Crop,
Brightness, Colour & Contrast adjustment is very much needed, and very
useful.

Well, Word can crop pictures and change the brightness and contrast. Color
adjustments are limited to changing from full color to grayscale, B&W, or
"washout" (for watermarks. When you click on a graphic, you should get the
Picture toolbar, which includes buttons for all these settings, as well as
the Format Picture dialog, which offers others.

Hi Mike,

Those features are available but not in the (legacy) Edit picture dialog.

With the picture selected in Word 2007 you should see a 'Picture Tools' super-tab with a 'Format tab' under it. The crop tool is
in the 'size' group and the Brightness and contrast choices are in the 'Adjust' group in that ribbon.

Also in the Adjust group is a 'recolor'choice. This is basically a set of color washes that are drawn from any 'theme' set you may
currently have active in a document. If you're looking for something more on the lines of an 'auto adjust color' feature, you can
get *some* changes in color warmth using the Right click, Format Picture, 3D format and change the surface lighting presets.
