EDIT POINTS

In the previoius version of PP we could draw a curved line and then change it's shape by through the "Edit Points" command. How do I do this it in the 2008 version?

Hi

Edit Points is still available in PowerPoint 2008, but not all of the lines
behave the same as before. The lines on the drawing toolbar are not lines
any more. They¹re connectors. Yea. Dumb idea to substitute connectors for
lines in the UI, but they did.

To make real lines click on the Lines and Connectors button on the drawing
toolbar, then drag the submenu off. The bottom 3 buttons are real lines and
if you right click on a line made by one of those 3 buttons you will be
offered the Edit Points option.

It appears MacBu made the Mac 2008 interface behave as badly as Office 2007
on Windows in order to be consistent with their dumb approach. I wish MacBU
had kept 2008 consistent with the old Mac version instead of Office 2007 for
windows. I guess that¹s what they mean by cross-platform ³compatibility.²

Hi Peteh,

Edit points hasn¹t changed in 2008. You can still use it to alter the
design of lines and curves drawn using the Curve, Freeform or Scribble
tools. You can also use it to alter the built-in Shapes by first choosing
³Convert to Freeform².

Please let us know if there is something that you could do in 2004 that you
can no longer do in 2008.

Matt

Where do you "convert to freeform" ... I am very frustrated by not being able to use edit points to customize shapes and lines like I could in 2004 ... would appreciate detailed "idiot like" instructions on how to do this in 2008

Thanks

I have spent hours trying to get "edit points" to customize shapes and lines like I used to in 2004 ... missed a huge deadline because of time spent and still can't get edit points to work like I need it to. I have tried suggestions below but doesn't work to the freedom I got from 2004. Can Matt please give very specific instructions ... I feel like the 2008 version is going backwards ... less than 2004 PPT

Hi,

Perhaps you are not using a regular newsgroup reading program and missed
my previous posting in this thread, so I'm pasting another copy of it here:

1) Draw a shape
2) CTRL-Click on shape
3) Select "Convert to Freeform" in context menu
4) CTRL-Click on shap (now a freeform)
5) Select "Edit Points" in context menu

Try that and let us know what exactly doesn't work for you if that still
doesn't solve your problems.
