Edit, Replace doesn't change CAPITALS to lower case

In Word, if you want to replace a word in capitals with
the same word in lower case it says it has made the
replacement but the word's case stays the same. the
opposite way works (i.e. from lower case to capitals)

Has anyone experienced this problem. It has occurred on 3
computers running different versions of Word from 2000 to
XP?

Hi Lisa,

It's by design. If you replace a word or phrase that's in ALL CAPS, the
replacement text will be ALL CAPS, too (so if you replace "JFK" with "John
F. Kennedy", you'll get "JOHN F. KENNEDY").

If the first letter in the found text is a cap, the first letter in the
replacement will be capitalized, too (so if you replace "this is" with
"that is", "This is" will be replaced with "That is").

To avoid all that, check "Match case" in the "Edit > Replace" dialog.
The replacement text will then appear exactly as you typed it. Also,
searching for "this is" will no longer find "This is".

Regards,
Klaus
