edit scanned picture

i scanned a picture into word. the picture is basically in shape of a
square. the lines on the square was written over with a magic marker. i
want to edit the scan picture and remove the ink that went outside of the
lines of the square. how do i do that?

Cropping removes part of the picture on the edge where you crop it. You can
only crop in a straight line, but you did say the picture was squarish. If
you need to "erase" marks on an irregular area, you'll need to use a
graphics editor such as Paint, Photoshop, Corel PhotoPAINT, etc.
