Edit xlsx files in Excel 2000

I use office 2000 sp3 with all current, critical updates installed. I
have installed the FileFormatConverters.exe and OCONVPCK.EXE. I can
open xlsx files but cannot edit them as they open up read only. There
is no option to save in the new 2007 file format either.

So I guess my question is with all the updates and convertion packs
installed is it possible to edit a 2007 Excel file in Excel 2000.
