edited .htm doc causes IE to crash

A user running XP PRO SP1, IE 6.0 and Office 2000 (with all security packs
applied for all) experienced Word 2000 corruption which required me to run
msicuu.exe to remove. Then installed Office 2003. Now, when the user edits a
file named index.htm that contains hyperlinks and opens it, IE crashes with
the Send / Don't Send report window. Other users that access this file have
no problems doing so. I have upgraded to SP2 to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas? i know this is kinda vague so if you need add'l info
let me know.

Follow up..

Installed Firefox and the problem is no longer. HOWEVER, I still would like
to hear from anyone that may know what the underlying problem is in IE or
Word.
