Editing a view

M

Marko

Someone in my organisation created a view, let's say "Marks view". All I need
to do is add a column (Enterprise text field) into this view and save, so the
edited view is always available for any project going forward. I appreciate
that the view will point to a table, so it's probably the table I need to
edit. Thanks! (Using MS Project Server 2003)

Remember that in Microsoft Project, a View is defined as follows:

View = Table + Filter + Group + Screen

To prepare to create/copy the existing custom View, open Read/Only the
project containing the custom View. Next, click View - Table - More Tables
and copy an existing Table that at least some of the columns you wish to
see. Give the Table a unique name, then edit it to include the column you
want user to see, plus any other columns needed in the Table. When
finished, apply the Table in the custom View. It sounds like you don't need
a custom Filter or Group, so then open the Enterprise Global file for
editing. Click Tools - Organizer and copy the new custom View AND Table
from the Read-Only project into the Enterprise Global file. Close the
Organizer dialog, then save and close the Enterprise Global. Close the
Read-Only file without saving it, and then exit and relaunch Microsoft
Project Professional 2003. You will now see the new custom View in every
project, and every other PM will see it as well. Hope this helps.
