There is a great Word 2007 flyer for a book club, and I would like to edit
the pictures to put a coffee cup. How do I do that i Word 2007?

Do you mean you want to replace the books in the top graphic with a coffee
cup?

Yes, and the watermark of the book in body of the first box.

In both cases those are full graphics. You can copy the entire image and
paste it into a blank Word document to see what all is included in the
graphic. The books are not a part that you can substitute with something
else. I would suggest using a graphics editing program, such as Photoshop
Elements (more reasonably priced than Photoshop) and creating something to
suit your own needs. You could try replacing the books in PSE but getting
that patterned background to flow smoothly could be challenging.
