Editing comments crashes excel

Whenever i seem to edit or even only view comments in
excel, the program crashes and comes up with an error
saying: 'The instruction at "0x30265962" referenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read.' When i
click ok to that it comes up with another error message
with error code of "0x02846c35".

This has happened to 2 separate files and occurs on
different pc's. Re-installing excel has no effect
(regardless of what office updates i have installed).

Is there an issue with comments in excel or is it that the
files are somewhat corrupted?

I would suspect the latter.

Try this:

Open the file
Save-as filetype Webpage
Close the file
Open the html file
Save-as normal Excel workbook.

Now try to edit comments again.
