editing comments in excel

Help! Editing comments, hiding/showing comments has never been a problem
until this morning. One whole column seems to be "protected", "frozen" or
something!
When I select the cell, the comment shows as it should. When I right click
to edit, nothing happens! I've gone to the insert tool bar (after selecting
the cell whose comment I want to edit) and then "edit comment" , still
nothing. What happened? And more importantly, how do I fix this? This is a
large worksheet, with comments in 50% of the cells. Thanks, Penny
