Editing Comments in Word 2007

When I try to edit my Comments (from the Comments tool) by selecting blocks
of text (usually with the ctrl+shift arrows keys) Word doesn't delete the
block when I hit Delete or Backspace. It's painful and error prone to have to
remove text letter by letter.

Is there anyway to get this to work properly?

Can you be more specific about what you mean by the "Comments tool"? And are you
using "balloons" or are they turned off?
