Editing document

W

Walter E.

I am using Win XP with Word XP. I would like to condense a long document
(100 Pages) by editing out paragraphs.

But I do not just want to delete these paragraphs while I am editing them
because, if I delete them cannot re-instate them if I change my mind.

How can I edit a long document by just marking paragraphs for deletion
without actually deleting them? (Highlite the text to be deleted in yellow,
is that the best way of doing it?)

Walter,

I don't know if it is best, but it will certainly work. Hightlight the
paragraphs you might want to delete. When ready to delete use
Edit>Replace>More. Put cursor in the Find what window, click
More>Format>Highlight. Leave the Replace with window empty and use either
the find next and replace buttons or replace all button.

You could use Word's Track Changes feature. This really gives you the most
flexibility because you have a variety of views of your document (which you
can select from the Reviewing toolbar). If you choose Original, you'll see
the unedited version. If you choose Final, you can see how it would read
without the text you've deleted. If you choose Original Showing Markup or
Final Showing Markup, you'll see views that show the document with additions
or deletions in marginal balloons. If you change your mind about a deletion,
you can just click on it and use the Reject Change button to undo it.
