EDITING SHAPE TEXT

Whenever I wish to edit text that has been added to a shape or line, I
normally double click the shape (or line) and then I am able to see and
change it. Although that is still the case, when editing the text it is
always white on a white background with the result that I am unable to see
the text I am changing. I assume that I changed some setting somewhere, as
I'm sure this is not normal behaviour - any ideas anyone ?

I am also looking for a solution to see highlighted text in a box.

When editting, the text should be black on a blue background. Even white on
white text should show as black on blue.
