Editing Sharepoint Services 3.0 Using Frontpage 2003

I was looking forward to my next Sharepoint project and using Frontpage to
really tweak the sites within. However, right out of the shoot I ran into a
problem in Frontpage whereby I was denied access to editing the sites using
FP. The error box I get says:

"This web site has been configured to disallow editing with frontpage

contact your web site administrator for more information"

Now one might say that there must be a switch some place. Well there is and
it is outlined in this KB - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838117. I
checked both places to see if indeed editing was set to not allowed but all
was okay.

I am running WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. I have FP 2003
installed on the server itself and use terminal services to remote into the
server to do my work on the server itself. In that case I choose the Open
Site option in the File menu in FP and open http://servername to do the work
but no such luck because of the error above.

Any ideas??

I have the same problem. I get the error when I use the wss
"application" name (the site name is //servername:port#) to Open site
in FP2003.I am able to get access when I Opensite the "IP address/d$".
This is the physical location where the wss site resides on the
server.

I built a development lab to test how wss and FrontPage would work
together. My users will have to use FP2003 to contribute to the site
in the short term. I have a homebox standing in as a server. It runs
WSS v3.0, SQL Server 2005, .Net Franework 3.0. I don't know yet what
it means that the "address flavor": physical address versus wss
application name, makes a difference.
