Editing the data source

Alex

I've merged a small amount of data from Excel into Word
2002. Now I'm in Word I want to edit the data source so
I've clicked on Mail Merge Recipients on the toolbar which
brings up the data source. The only problem is the Edit
button is disabled so I can't edit the data.

Any ideas how to edit the source (in Excel) from Word??

Thanks,

Alex

As far as I know, the only way you can do this is to use the old DDE
connection method to Excel, which actually opens up Excel (and you basically
have to switch to Excel to do the editing). To do that, check Word
Tools|Options|General|"Confirm conversions at open" and go through the data
source selection process again.

You will probably see the Edit button available if you use /any/ of the
connection methods in the list other than OLEDB, but
a. with ODBC you have to start MS Query to do the edits. Personally, I'd
want to be sure I was editing using Excel's own facilities.
b. with the Converter connection method, you are probably editing a copy of
the data, not the original worksheet.

Thanks for the reply.

That has answered my question perfectly.

Thanks again,
