Editing Word 2000 data source fields in Word 2002

Monica

I have Word 2002. I'm using a Word 2000 data source. I'd
like to use the address block and include the field job
title. When I go to Match Fields and indicate that the
job title field (in the optional fields section)is
available it is still ignored and not placed in the
address block. Can I change the required fields to
include this field in the address block?

To get around that:
I figured out using a 2002 data source that I could simply
rearrange the order of the fields (namely having the job
title field beneath the name fields) would allow the
address block to include the job title field.
Unfortunately I coud not rearrange the order of the fields
in the 2000 data source with any success.

When viewed in Word 2000 the data source is in the correct
order to have the address block pick up the job title
field. However when it's opened in Word 2002 it appears
in some default order with the Job title field always
appearing last. Will I have to just continue inserting
each field individually as in 2000, or is there some way
to change this?

Has anyone heard of this or encountered this problem? I
just emailed on an "allexperts website" a "MOS certified"
expert who had never even heard of the address block.
Please help!

Thanks,

Monica

Hi Monica,

<G> Well, Word is a huge application, and I don't think any
single person knows all the ins-and-outs of it!

Yes, I've heard of the address block; but I don't have a very
high opinion of it, since it's not very flexible at all (as
you're noticing). Your particular task is a new one to me,
however.

From your problem description, I sort of follow what you want
and how you've tried to get it to work, but not in enough
detail to be able to test.
- What is your "Word 2000" data source? A Word .doc
containing a table? Can you give me the relevant field names?

- And the Word 2002 data source that works when you "fiddle"
the Addressblock field, is that a *mdb file that Word has
generated? Here, again, what are the relevant field names?

- In "Match fields" you set which field name from the data
source equivalent to which "field name" on the left?

- Have you gone into the field codes and actually tried
manipulating the Addressblock field? (That's not clear from
your description, but I have the impression not)

Thanks Cindy! You inadvertently answered my question. I
didn't realize the address block could be edited. I made
the changes and it merges beautifully!

Great! I was sort of hoping something in one of my questions
would "jog it loose" :)
