Hello, I'm fairly new to "MS Office 2004 for Mac" on Mac OS 10.4 and am
looking for some quality education or training materials on this
application. Level: intermediate to advanced. lynda.com was going to
put out video training on this, but that fell through. Video training
preferred. Suggestions and helpful pointers will be welcomed.

This is a question with multiple answers :)

*) If you already know Windows Office well, you do not need any "training"
in Mac Office, the differences are insignificant.

*) If you already know word-processing, spreadsheets and presentations
well, then you do not need training: Microsoft Office is the same as the
other major suites.

Assuming the above, you will find your way around Mac Office very quickly
using the Help. That's on the Help menu in any of the applications. The
Help is the largest and most up-to-date source of information there *is*.
It is far more extensive and accurate than any book you can buy.

Because the Help is such a large knowledgebase, it pays to spend a moment
learning to use it effectively. At least read this one: "Learn how to use
the Help viewer".

However, if you do not yet know office documents well, then you can usefully
start here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/

Then here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/default.aspx

Ultimately, you will develop specific questions on one or more of the
applications, where you will need information in greater depth than is
offered there. We would suggest that you come back here at that stage, and
we'll find you a specialist in each subject :)

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for the leads. I looked them over and they seem
like good resources that I will take advantage of.

Good points and reassuring to know that what I know of Office
applications on Windows will pretty much be the same for understanding
them on Mac OS. So what probably would be helpful to me would be
understanding the interactions between the Office applications and Mac
OS. I think between what you and Diane provided, I should have enough
to get started. Plus, to get more familiar with Mac OS 10.4, I've been
reviewing some lynda.com video training. Thanks!

Thanks! I read the article and it will be helpful as I get into using
Entourage. Also, re your earlier reply, although I haven't used
e-books before, I will probably get the one you suggested. Plus, $5 is
a tough price to beat. :)

Dear [whoever],
... reassuring to know that what I know of Office

them on Mac OS.

In that case, download some notes on the way I use Word for the Mac, titled
"Bend Word to Your Will", which are available as a free download from the
Word MVPs' website (http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html),
and do Command-f to find references to "Windows"; then repeat for "PC".

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. It's important
to read the front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you
can select some Word settings that will allow you to use the document
effectively.]
