EHLO Command Not Supported

Hello,

I've just installed Outlook 2007 RTM and I ran into a big problem. I
cannot send any message, the error reported being 0x800CCC64.

Here is a part of the log which shows the problem:
2006.11.14 09:28:28 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Port: 25, Secure: no,
SPA: no
2006.11.14 09:28:28 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Finding host
2006.11.14 09:28:28 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Connected to host
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): <rx> 220 WebShield SMTP
MR2
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): [tx] EHLO LAPBOCAN
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): <rx> 502 Command not
Supported
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Disconnecting from host
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Disconnected from host
2006.11.14 09:28:32 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): End execution
2006.11.14 09:28:32 ALCATEL: ReportStatus: RSF_COMPLETED, hr =
0x800ccc64

It seems that the EHLO command is not supported. How come that I could
successfully use the same mail server with Outlook 2003?
Is there a way to set Outlook 2007 to use the more common HELO command?

I found a solution to the problem: I set Otlook to authenticate to the
POP3 sever before sending e-mail. In the log I could see how the faulty
EHLO implementation in the SMTP server is graciously replaced with a
working HELO command.

2006.11.14 09:37:56 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): <rx> 250
rotims0c0001.tm.alcatel.ro Welcome LAPBOCAN
2006.11.14 09:37:56 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Authorized to host
2006.11.14 09:37:56 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): Connected to host
2006.11.14 09:37:56 SMTP (smtp.tm.alcatel.ro): [tx] MAIL FROM: <*****>

I think that this issue should be documented in some kind of FAQ.

Best regards,
Valer
